End of lockdown and search at Mountain Institution
Mountain Institution has concluded its lockdown and search operations, returning to normal function and resuming inmate visits as of June 26, 2026.
Mountain Institution, a federal correctional facility, has officially ended its lockdown and comprehensive search procedures. The institution, located in Agassiz, British Columbia, had been under lockdown since June 26, 2026, to facilitate an exceptional search.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) initiated the lockdown to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff, and inmates. Such measures are typically implemented to seize contraband, address security threats, or maintain order within the facility.
With the search now completed, Mountain Institution has fully resumed its regular operational schedule. This includes the reinstatement of inmate visits, allowing families and legal representatives to reconnect with those incarcerated. The return to normal operations signifies that any immediate security concerns prompting the lockdown have been addressed.
