Manitoba Driver Licensing Overview

Learner stage

Minimum age 16 (15.5 with high-school driver education). Zero alcohol, supervised by a driver with at least 3 years' experience. Minimum 9 months before the road test.

Intermediate stage

Begins after passing the road test. Zero alcohol for 15 months. Restrictions on passengers between midnight and 5 a.m.

Full Class 5

Full driving privileges after completing the Intermediate stage with no suspensions.

Knowledge Test Format

The MPI Class 5 knowledge test is a 25-question multiple-choice exam written at any MPI Service Centre. You must answer at least 80% correctly to pass. The test covers road signs and rules of the road.
